My Story

About Me

Hey! I’m a 22-year-old cat lover who embraces life and all it has to offer. I was born and raised in St. Louis, and am passionate about my city and where I come from. Despite the high crime rates and even losing friends to gun violence, I am always excited to share the “gateway to the Midwest” with my friends. I rave over Imo’s pizza, Chinese food, and Smino. I am a recent graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (can I get an aggie pride!!) where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. As a first-generation college student, I describe the four years at my HBCU as “some of the most transformative years of her life.” I am currently most excited about living out my dream of teaching English in Austria.

Some fun facts about me are:

  • I have an irrational phobia of bananas

  • My favorite anime is “Kill La Kill”

  • My favorite rapper is Kid Cudi (because how could you not stan?)

  • I speak German and French. I plan to learn Turkish and Arabic

  • I don’t like cake, but I will eat the icing

The Advocate

The Advocate

I have a passion for serving disenfranchised people. I hold valuable experience as an advocate in many different forms. In 2018, I served as a Capitol Hill Intern for Congressman G.K. Butterfield and advocated against the separation of immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border. As the student body president for the 2019-2020 academic school year, my team and I successfully advocated for an early polling site on A&T’s campus. My career goal is to work with immigrants and refugees in their resettlement process, mainly in second language acquisition. I see the ability to speak other languages as a form of empowerment and a way to break down barriers. To learn more about her experience, find her resume below.

The Educator

The Educator

I believe that education is one of the greatest tools we have access to. Whether it’s in a classroom or by writing an article, I love to educate people on history, politics, social justice, and language learning. I have experience as a tutor to 5th grade Swahili speaking students at Doris Henderson Newcomers School in Greensboro, NC. I also tutored Spanish speaking adults through Reading Connections. I view my time as a lead reporter and the editor for the opinionated section at the A&T Register, the university newspaper, as a form of education. I plan to find ways to embed second language acquisition research, curriculum consultancy, and education policy reform into my career.
