The Rotation: October Edition
Spooky season has arrived, and my vibe has been a bit spooky. In the sense that I’m listening to all these cuffing tunes knowing I’m single and loving it to the max. Outside of mourning GHOE and enjoying the transition into fall, here are the albums I’ve been listening to this month.
Bryson Tiller – A N N I V E R S A R Y
If it’s one thing I’m gone do, it’s stan Bryson Tiller. I mean like, I almost cried when this joint dropped. Mainly because he played us with Trapsoul (Deluxe) and them cute lil extra songs. This album is exactly what I wanted from Bryson. It’s the perfect mix of his vibe on Trapsoul and True To Self. He’s got those heart-wrenching vocals on “Sorrows” but that fun upbeat side on “Things Change.” In 10 songs, Bryson has reminded me why I can listen to him years later. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I truly stan him, but his music is so timeless for me. I know I can listen to this album in five years and still vibe out, in the same way he did with Trapsoul. He’s just always going to deliver for me.
Omar Apollo – Apolonio
Back in August, Omar made his way into my honorable mentions for his album Stereo. When this album dropped, I was anticipating to see if Omar would deliver. I’m almost mad at myself for expecting something I’d listen to and walk away from. I don’t want to say this album is dynamic because I’m just being my usual dramatic self, but its truly beautiful. The vocals, acoustics, lyrics, it’s all giving. Omar’s given me several mood captions. And that Kali Uchis feature? *chefs kiss*. Honestly, go listen if you haven’t really listened to Omar. You won’t be disappointed. Matter of fact, shoot me something in the contact section about your thoughts on the album.
Brent Faiyez – F**k the World
I am honestly disappointed in myself for listening to this and enjoying it. More than disappointed. Disgusted, actually. I have been anti-Brent Faiyez since 2018. The man simply can not sing. *inserts “to you” meme here*. I mean, let’s get real, R&B singers are not like what they used to be. Sir is too “underground,” and Daniel Caesar was “cancelled” so this is what we’ve been left with. Lets just say…someone played him around me.. and I.. vibed to it. Then “Bluffin” was stuck in my head, so I just listened to the whole album… a couple of times. I’m going to keep capping and acting like I didn’t like him but. Y’all get the gist. The man is truly good and I apologize to anybody I argued with on Twitter or IRL about him. Sue me.
Ty Dolla $ign – Featuring Ty Dolla $ign
The feature king has trolled us all again and dropped an album with like, a thousand features. Aside from Ty being a coon and saying he told Kanye to run for President and the corny songs like “Freak”, I’m really glad I took the time to listen to this. It is honestly a solid album. Whatever mood you’re in, there’s a song for it, and I really appreciate artists who can make albums like that. I also can’t help but to stan all the features. I got to enjoy Thundercat, Kehlani, and Thugger. Ty has also proven himself musically because he shows he can hold his own on tracks like “Nothing Like Your Exes.” Plus, that “Tyrone” sample went incredibly stupid. Like straight nutty. Here’s to vibing to mainstream music, *clink clink*.
Honorary Mentions:
Giveon – When It’s All Said and Done
It’s too short to make the cut and honestly, ever since Joe Budden clowned the lyrics to “Still Your Best” on his podcast I can’t help but to laugh.
Juicy J & Lex Luger – Blue Dream & Lean
My childhood is finally on apple music, I’m crying real tears.
21 Savage & Metro Boomin – Savage Mode II
Toosii – Poetic Pain
PARTYNEXTDOOR – PARTYPACK
I’ve been waiting practically my whole life for “Persian Rugs” to leave Sound Cloud
Random Austrian, German, and French rap that I never get the names of because people just play it around me.
